Sustainability

Our Strategy

Our purpose at Simx is to provide high-quality and sustainable solutions to New Zealander’s homes. We, along with our parent company Volution, are committed to a low-carbon future along with improving the health and wellbeing of all people and our planet.

To best meet our goals, we’ve split our sustainability strategy into three parts: product, planet and people.

Product

Simx is always looking for new ways to drive sustainability in any market. One example of this is how we’re helping New Zealanders save power through our change from AC to EC fans, which are much more energy efficient.

Over the last year we’ve also taken steps to reduce the amount of virgin plastic used in our products. One initiative to reduce this is our recycled grey ducting, which both reduced plastic going to landfill, and the energy required to produce each component.

We don’t just offer more sustainable options for old products; we also have new sustainability focused solutions. For example: our PIR sensors can dramatically improve the efficiency of your lighting system, and our Heat Recovery systems which can optimize the performance of your household’s heating system.

Planet

Beyond product innovation, Simx has undertaken several sustainability process improvements. We’ve focused on improving our Deliver In Full On Time (DIFOT), which means fewer extra shipments are required to compete each order, noticeably reducing our carbon footprint and packing waste.

We are also in the process of removing as much plastic as possible from our packaging. Recently one Simx product range has eliminated the need for over 200,000 plastic bags, and 78% of our overall range has had its polystyrene packaging completely removed!

When we can’t eliminate, we recycle. This is why 77.0% of the plastic processed through Volution facilities is supplied from recycled sources, with the commitment to reach 90% by the end of FY2025.

People

It’s not just the environment that is important, people matter too. Simx is committed to sustainable procurement. We aim to mitigate issues such as supply chain risks as well as bribery, corruption and modern slavery. People are also one of our greatest assets in fulfilling our sustainability goals. By encouraging our employees to submit proposals to improve processes, we have cultivated a sustainability mindset at all levels of our business.

One example of this is replacing shrink wrap and single use pallet boxes with re-useable and recyclable pallet boxes and Velcro pallet wrap, an idea that was started by a member of our warehouse team!

As a group, Volution aims to reduce reportable workplace accidents to 0.

OUR COMMITMENTS

At Simx sustainability is a part of everything we do.

Volution Group plc, the parent company of Simx Ltd is one of just over 110 organizations to receive the Green Economy Mark from the London Stock Exchange. This mark is given to companies that derive more than 50% of their revenue from environmental solutions. Currently just over 70% of Volution’s revenue is from low-carbon products, with a goal to raise this to 75% by the end of FY2026.

As part of Volution, Simx is striving towards a net zero carbon future. The group is on track to halve its carbon emissions by 2030 and is aiming to become net zero by 2040.
